Japanese OEMs Kyocera and Fujitsu are delaying the return to operations in China, after the new year holiday.

The Japan Times reports that firms with a base in China are deciding to delay the restarting of operations after they closed for the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday citing fears of the coronavirus spreading. These concerns are being echoed among other international companies with production facilities in China who are presently considering if supply chain operations will need to be suspended for a much longer period.

Toyota, Kyocera Corp., Omron Corp. and Fujitsu General Ltd. Are among several corporations that have already decided to extend the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday closure to 9 February. During that period they are reviewing the situation and if needed will further extend the closure period. Honda is actively considering an extended closure, according to Japan Times.

Toshizo Tanaka, Executive Vice President of Canon Inc. told the Japan Times: “Wuhan is a key transport hub in China, so we are concerned about possible impacts to our supply chain.”

From the aftermarket, Print-Rite and Utec made an announcement that they are extending their closure till 2nd February. Print-Rite and Utec said: “In view of the recent outbreak of the novel coronavirus, the Chinese government has activated the highest level emergency response in several cities and provinces and taking measures in its attempt to contain the epidemic.

“To protect our colleagues and prevent the spread of the disease, we have extended the Lunar New Year holiday to 2 Feb., 2020. We, including our sales and customer service team, will resume work on 3 Feb., 2020 to serve you.”
