Konica Minolta USA has been sued by Altair Logix alleging a breach of one of their patents that occurs in the Konica Minolta Bizhub, 367/287/227 devices.

Altair Logix LLC (Altair) filed the patent infringement complaint against Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., (Konica Minolta) alleging a breach of Altair’s US Patent No. 6,289,434 (“the ‘434 Patent”).

Altair claims that Konica Minolta has been directly infringing claims of the ‘434 patent in the Konica Minolta Bizhub, 367/287/227 range of devices.

The ‘434 Patent is titled “Apparatus and Method of Implementing Systems on Silicon Using Dynamic-Adaptive Run-Time Reconfigurable Circuits for Processing Multiple, Independent Data and Control Streams of Varying Rates.”

The invention in the ‘434 Patent relates to the field of runtime reconfigurable dynamic-adaptive digital circuits which can implement a myriad of digital processing functions related to systems control, digital signal processing, communications, image processing, speech and voice recognition or synthesis, three-dimensional graphics rendering, and video processing.

The complaint was filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and Altair is seeking judgement against Konica Minolta that they have infringed Altair’s 434 patent. They are also seeking damages and costs and interest on the damages.

Our take on this: Lawyers argue, judges judge and when it comes to IP, you never know how the decision will come down. One thing is for sure, the Bizhub range of devices is important to Konica Minolta and loosing this case could prove expensive.
