Katun receives Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification

Katun Corporation has earned the coveted Nordic Swan Ecolabel certified status for many remanufactured and refilled OEM toner cartridges.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a Type 1 ecolabel (ISO 14024), one of the world’s most credible environmental labels. Type 1 means that the certified products meet strict environmental requirements set by an independent third party and based on a life-cycle assessment.

The assessment verifies that all the environmental and chemical requirements are met before a product is approved. The company said: “Katun is committed to protecting the environment and participating in the circular economy, and this additional achievement is just another example of that commitment.”

Katun explained that it actively participates in the circular economy by selling remanufactured or refilled imaging supplies that provide its dealer and distributor customers with high quality, cost-effective replacement parts. The company added: “Katun pioneered the way by introducing the refilled OEM cartridge concept in 2008 and have gone on to introduce several more versions for various applications, saving an abundance of plastic waste from landfill. Katun’s remanufactured and refilled products are rigorously tested to ensure that their performance meets or exceeds that of the OEM equivalent.”

Katun’s refilled and remanufactured cartridges require fewer raw materials, and the manufacturing energy consumption is less than producing a new-build product. Waste is significantly reduced and prevents landfill use. Overall, the reduced impact on the environment is 84%, compared to the production of a new-build cartridge. This was recently proven in a Katun commissioned Life-Cycle Assessment conducted by an independent study.

As an Authorised Distribution Partner of PrintReleaf, a cloud-based page monitoring solution that converts printed pages into trees by offsetting paper consumption with reforestation, Katun offers its customers a solution to contribute to green initiatives with a quantified approach, and ultimately make a real difference to the environment. To date, Katun customers have collectively been responsible for the planting of over 5,000 trees in various reforestation projects across the globe.

Katun said it is dedicated to promoting environmentally friendly practices in the workplace and with its employees. From recycling at home to cycling to work, staff are encouraged to share their personal green contributions to be rewarded with “Katun Green Ambassador” status. Katun uses only recycled pallets in the new European Distribution Centre, in Tiel in The Netherlands, a sustainable, CO2 emission reducing solution certified by Palletcentrale Groep B.V.
