Celebrating a decade-long partnership, Officeworks’ annual Literacy is Freedom Appeal has raised AU$650,000 ($437,137/ €412,976) for the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF).

Raising funds via local stores, Officeworks customers and teams were encouraged to participate in the Literacy is Freedom Appeal throughout October to help bridge the literacy gap for children and communities in need.

Officeworks stores across Australia participated in the Appeal, with all funds raised going to support key ALNF literacy and language programmes including the Early Language and Literacy, Literacy Pack and Share a Book programmes.

Stores and communities that participated in this year’s fundraising efforts include but are not limited to:

  • Milton – AU$12,990 ($8,736/ €8,433)
  • Taren Point – AU$10,080 ($6,779/ €6,543)
  • Virginia – AU$9,305 ($6,257/ €6,039)
  • Marion – AU$8,859 ($5,957/ €5,749)
  • Chadstone – AU$8,526 ($5,957/ €5,749)

Officeworks Managing Director Sarah Hunter said: “Our team and customer community is deeply proud to be able to make a difference to the literacy and language of vulnerable Australian children and communities. It is something we’ve been passionate about over the course of our 10-year relationship with the ALNF.

“With the $650,000 ($437,137/ €412,976) raised through the generosity of our customers, ALNF will be able to support 5,400 students to build bigger and brighter futures through greater access to education”.

The partnership between Officeworks and ALNF has raised more than AU$4 million ($2.69 million/ €2.59 million) since its formation in 2012, which ALNF Co-Founder and Executive Director Kim Kelly said “has transformed countless lives and communities across the nation through literacy and education.”

“We are extremely grateful to Officeworks and each and every customer that has donated this year, and throughout the last decade. You are change-makers, standing with us to ensure that no child is left behind”, said Kelly.
