The company has released its first quarter financial results, reporting flat sales revenue and profit decreases year-on-year (YoY).

Sales revenue for the quarter was ¥200.4 billion ($1.41 billion/ €1.28 billion), a 0.3% increase year-on-year. Business segment profit was down 6.7% year-on-year.

Brother said that despite positive effects of decreased logistics costs and price adjustments mainly in the P&S business, business segment profit decreased due to decreased gross profit resulting from decreased sales in the P&H and Machinery businesses. Sales and Profit were impacted by sluggish market conditions mainly in the Machinery business.

In its Printing & Solutions business segment, total sales revenue was ¥110.8 billion ($778 million/ €709 million) for communications & printing equipment, down 0.6% year-on-year. Sales were down in Americas and Japan but up in Europe, Asia and other markets.

For the full year forecasts, Brother has made no adjustments.
