Canon announces more Amazon listing removals

The company announced the filing of an infringement report with Amazon.com seeking the removal of Amazon.com listings for certain toner cartridges, using its U.S. Patent No. 10,691,063.

Canon Inc. requested removal of toner cartridges from Amazon.com, including Cool Toner brand cartridges sold by Epicartridges US-based on Canon patent relating to toner cartridges having certain internal configurations.

Canon’s infringement report filed on 9 February 2024 identified, among others, the product offerings shown in the table below and alleged that cartridges sold under these offerings infringe Canon’s U.S. Patent No. 10,691,063. Canon requested that Amazon remove these product offerings from Amazon.com.

At the time of this announcement, the product offerings listed above were no longer available on Amazon.com.

Canon added that it engages in extensive research and development so that it can deliver innovative and valuable products to customers all over the world. Through its research and development efforts, Canon has obtained a large and robust portfolio of patents. In order to protect its many innovations, Canon enforces its patents against various toner cartridge designs that Canon believes infringe its patent rights.

While Canon had previously filed infringement reports with Amazon.com based on Canon’s U.S. Patent No. 9,581,958 against compatible cartridges having the same relevant structure as genuine HP toner cartridge models CF360/1/2/3, this latest report was based on Canon’s U.S. Patent No. 10,691,063.

Generally speaking, as compared with some of the patents Canon has asserted in previous Amazon infringement reports, Canon’s U.S. Patent No. 10,691,063 is directed more toward the internal configurations of toner cartridges.

The company continued: “Throughout the development, sales and marketing process, Canon respects the intellectual property of other companies and individuals and expects others to similarly respect Canon’s intellectual property rights. Canon remains committed to pursuing legal enforcement against those who do not respect Canon’s intellectual property.”
