French artist David Bayo has created a dramatic portrait picture using a stippling technique reminiscent of the action of an inkjet printer.
The Astrée portrait took the artist 300 hours to complete and consists of over 3 million dots, created using “a painstaking stipple technique”, as Andrew Liszewski of Sploid reports.
Bayo’s method has invited comparison with an Epson inkjet printer, as the process of producing the image is essentially the same, except that while a printer “creates millions of dots smaller than the human eye can perceive, and it can churn out a portrait like this in less than minute”, Bayo had to labour for almost two weeks to finish his image.
