Prints meet pints with new device

An innovative new printer boasting the technology to print onto the foam of beer itself may be coming to pub near you soon.

A company has developed a new printer that is capable of printing designs on the foamy head of a pint of beer, reports Digital Trends. The device, named Beer Ripples, is described as “revolutionary” by the CEO of the company behind it, and is reportedly able to print any high-resolution image or design, as well as receiving photos, images and messages directly via a mobile app.

“Beer Ripples is a revolutionary device that prints beautiful, high-resolution images and messages at the touch of a button, using Ripples’ malt-based ink,” explained Yossi Meshulam, Ripples’ CEO. “No special training is needed to operate the device. The Wi-Fi-connected, counter-top sized device features a highly intuitive touchscreen system, making Ripples a highly convenient and versatile way to transform a simple drink into a one-of-a-kind experience that keeps customers coming back for more.”

Digital Trends speculates that the apparatus might lead to several ingenious marriage proposals, although it will come at a price, with the device itself costing $3,000 (€2,400) as well as an annual $1,500 (€1,200) subscription, which provides the user with enough of the malt-based ink to print 6,000 times. It is aimed at bars and other culinary businesses, rather than for home use, and is also capable of printing onto lattes – possibly for the benefit of technologically-minded tee-totallers.

The technology is already finding fans, it seems; Meshulam added that “companies such as Twitter, Match.com, Mars, Facebook, Google, and IBM have used Ripples to offer an unforgettable, personalised experience at events, where they might share branded images and text to generate a massive, real-time buzz both at the event and on social media.”
