Dell has announced a date for the termination of its printer retail arm, with the OEM declaring that it will exit the printer business at the end of July 2018.
The Recycler first carried the news of Dell’s withdrawal from the printer market back in September 2016, when the company announced it was to scale back its imaging business, with its printer business wound up by 2021 at the latest.
Now, following a recent flurry of news on the issue, the company has announced its intention “to transition our customers from Dell-branded laser printers and accessories to a partner-led imaging portfolio.” This means that it shall continue selling other-brand printers, but no longer its own.
“With this diverse new partner-led portfolio of imaging products, we feel we will be able to meet our customers’ imaging needs better,” added the company, in a statement to Wirth Consulting.
The transition period will begin next month and is expected to conclude by the end of July this year. After that point, although Dell-branded printers will no longer be available, the OEM will continue to provide a range of printing solutions, firmware, and consumables, as well as continued customer support for those with Dell printers still under warranty.
In 2016, the company stated that all warranties would end in 2021, although it stipulated that it will “work with customers to provide upgrade options to ensure that their support requirements can be appropriately met up to 2021 end date.”
