Ricoh issue overheating warning

The OEM has issued an announcement to its UK customers, declaring “isolated incidents of overheating” and offering advice to customers how to upgrade their devices.

The company released the statement following two reported incidents of overheating on one model from the Colour MFP MP C2003, MP C2503, MP C3003, MP C3503, MP C4503, MP C5503, MP C6003 series, manufactured before May 2014.

“Ricoh immediately took steps, and after a thorough investigation, Ricoh determined that, in very rare cases, certain internal electrical components are at risk of overheating and present a potential fire hazard,” said the OEM’s statement.

The company stipulated that the incidents “have only occurred on a very rare occasion,” but reaffirmed its commitment to taking potential safety concerns seriously. It also declared that it has upgraded the “vast majority of potentially affected models in the field” already, to reduce the risk of future incidents, and that the purpose of the new notice was to encourage as many upgrades as possible.

“If you have an existing maintenance agreement for the affected model, the necessary fix should have already been completed on your device,” it said. However, if customers are still using one of the remaining affected models and have not received the necessary fix, nor yet been contacted by a Ricoh representative, the OEM has implored them to get in touch immediately to schedule a service appointment, free of charge.

“Our team is working extremely hard to minimise any impact this may have on our valued customers,” said the company, which also offered its “sincerest apologies.”

“We are dedicated to providing our customers the highest quality products and services,” it added.
