HP Roam set for Asia Pacific

The OEM is planning to launch its “print anywhere” solution in Asia Pacific soon, with the technology reaching the subcontinent next year.

The Hindu Business Line reports that the cloud-based cross-platform solution is due to be launched in India in 2019, following an imminent launch in Japan and the Asia Pacific region. The OEM has already unveiled the technology in “select geographies.”

HP Roam allows users to upload print jobs to the cloud, rather than selecting a specific printer, and “has the potential to replace dedicated PC print drivers that need to be installed and maintained on users’ PCs and network print servers.”

Roam will be targeted at individual users, SMBs and enterprise-level security. It will work with the Roam app, which will identify the nearest Roam-enabled printer. “If there is a service provider, you can identify the printer, go there and print securely off the cloud,” explained HP’s Subin Joseph, Vice-President of A3 & Office Printing Solutions for Asia Pacific and Japan. Users will then be able to make payments in the local currency.

The Hindu Business Line adds that “users can print direct, through Wi-Fi or near-field communication; or from the cloud.”

For Roam’s launch in India, HP will consider both business and standalone print-copy and photocopy shops.
