Responding to Donald Trump’s additional tariffs, China has warned it would have no choice but to take ‘synchronised counter measures’.
In the latest twist to the on-going trade conflict between the two global superpowers, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce made the announcement of possible counter measures this week, following the tariffs placed on $200 billion (€171.1 billion) worth of goods by President Trump.
As the South China Morning Post reports, the Ministry also stated that Trump’s tariffs had triggered “new uncertainties” which could be a point of contention in future talks between the two nations.
Trump announced the additional 10 percent tariffs on Monday, “significantly widening the scope of a trade war.” These tariffs will further increase to 25 percent from 1 January 2019.
Trump went on to say that if China retaliated with its own tariffs, the US would respond with further tariffs on $267 billion (€228.4 billion) worth of products which would cover “almost all Chinese exports to the US.”
