The groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant in Long An Province.
The OEM’s energy division has received an order to construct two further mega solar power plants in Vietnam.
Sharp Energy Solutions will build the facilities in Binh Thuan and Long An provinces, with each plant boasting a capacity of around 49 MW-dc. The order was received from Gia Lai Hydropower Joint Stock Company and TTC-Duc Hue Long An Power Joint Stock Company, together operating as Thanh Thanh Cong Group (TTC Group).
The plants are forecast to generate approximately 149,740 MWh a year, or the equivalent to the amount consumed by 79,353 average Vietnamese households annually. The output from these facilities is expected to avoid greenhouse gas emissions of 49,863 t-CO2 per year.
The government of Vietnam plans to raise the generating capacity of solar power facilities to 850 MW by the year 2020 and to 12,000 MW by 2030. In June 2017, the government introduced a feed-in tariff (FIT) system to further encourage the wider use of renewable energy. Electricity generated at both of these power plants will qualify under this system.
Earlier this year, Sharp announced the construction of another mega solar plant in Vietnam, in Thua Thien Hue Province, whilst it also recently completed a similar facility in Zamyn-Üüd, Mongolia.
