The OEM’s new INKvestment inkjet printers promise high-capacity tanks, as it seeks to follow rivals such as Epson and Canon in the refillable tank trend.

According to ITWire, the MFC-J1300DW and DCP-J1100DW, which are aimed at the SOHO market, boast “high-capacity cartridges said to be good for around 3,000 black pages and 1,500 in colour.”

These cartridges supply ink to internal tanks, meaning they don’t need to be changed as soon as they are empty, with the tanks providing a buffer “of about 500 pages.”

The machines also come with a Page Gauge feature, which shows the amount of ink remaining to the number of pages capable of being printed, with a dynamic calculation revealing this based on actual printer usage.

According to Brother’s General Manager Sales (Retail), Paul Saussey, the new approach from the OEM provides “great value.” He described the new models as “incredibly competitive” and “made for small businesses,” adding that they are “cheaper to run” than those printers with a traditional ink cartridge, whilst also delivering features “sometimes missing” from regular ink tank models.

“We aspired to keep the benefits of a cartridge — simplicity, cleanliness and familiarity — to ensure the best user experience,” Saussey explained, “but combine it with the power of Brother tank technology to provide users visibility of their remaining ink supply and save them money with the most economical print solution in its class.”

The DCP-J1100DW offers a print speed of 12 ppm, and boasts duplex printing, wireless and USB capabilities, and all-in-one functions, as well as a 150-sheet paper tray, colour touchscreen, cloud printing, and scanning. The MFC-J1300DW, meanwhile, adds fax capability and NFC support “to simplify mobile device connections.”
