Planet Ark sponsors National Recycling Week

Local councils across Australia will be marking National Recycling Week from 12-18 November 2018, sponsored by Planet Ark and RecyclingNearYou.

As part of the event, these organisations are encouraging businesses to set up their own recycling systems which will “help reduce your workplace’s impact on the environment and make your business more sustainable.”

One of the minor sponsors of National Recycling Week is Cartridges 4 Planet Ark, a cartridge recycling program which celebrated its 15th anniversary this year; businesses who want to participate in National Recycling Week are told that they might be eligible for the scheme if they use more than 3 cartridges a month. If so, they will receive a collection box and starter kit, and once their box is full they can call the hotline or arrange a complimentary courier pick up.

The costs of recycling and the program promotion are financed by OEMs such as Brother, Canon, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Epson and HP. The cartridges collected through the scheme are “either returned to their original manufacturer for reuse, or recycled into new products by Planet Ark’s resource recovery partner Close the Loop”.

One of the products Close the Loop is most well-known for producing – or aiding the production of – is alternative road surfaces such as TonerPlas, already put to good use in a Melbourne suburb.

In recent weeks, Planet Ark has also been drawing attention to the importance of recycling in partnership with HP, with the release of a new report and the creation of an art installation created by Wunderman Bienalto.
