Katun take on toner pirates

The company has released a comedic new video, in which it calls out the practices of telephone-based toner pirates.

In the short film, fictional company Global Worldwide Universal Travel is contacted by Davy Jones, AKA “Monochrome Beard”, of Toner Pyrate Copier Supplies, who insists on GWUT making a large order for copier toner.

The GWUT employee responds that her company has already received its toner, from its regular supplier, describing Katun business colour toner as providing “excellent colour reproduction,” “OEM equivalent yields,” and “great quality” – to which Davy Jones replies, “quality is overrated…”

Jones soon identifies himself as a “toner pirate,” making his living by “selling bogus toner to office workers that don’t need it.” When questioned as to how he got the telephone number to contact GWUT in the first place, he replies: “Facebook data breach.”

“People never question a kid dressed like a pirate,” Jones reasons. “Nobody ever thinks that a kid dressed up like a pirate is up to no good.”

Although light-hearted, Katun hopes to make a serious point as well as raising a chuckle, encouraging businesses to be wary of such toner pirates, attempting to sell unreliable printing supplies to companies who don’t have any need.

“Sink the toner pirates – choose only Katun toner,” the company encourages at the video’s end, adding in a final flourish that its products promise “All quality, no scurvy.”
