DMC Canotec supports charity walk

The company said it is extremely proud to be supporting a great friend and client, Martyn Wells of Warwickshire Law Firm Wright Hassall, as he embarks once more on a significant fundraising challenge: The Cape Wrath Trail 2019.

This undertaking in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support is a 10-day, 240-mile trek, beginning in Fort William on 31 August and continuing along the western fringes of the Scottish Coast, ending at Cape Wrath in the far North West of Scotland on 9 September.

Known as Britain’s hardest walk, the Cape Wrath Trail will see expedition team members navigating towering mountain ranges and freezing rivers while surviving on provisions carried on their backs. Camping each night, participants will tackle the infamous Scottish weather and wilderness head on.

Since being diagnosed with melanoma in 2017, Martyn has endured a long and challenging course of treatment and surgery, which continues to this day. Recently, his preparations were hit hard following immunotherapy treatment, which saw him contract double pneumonia and sepsis, then spend 15 days on a life support machine.

Incredibly, despite his diagnosis and recent complications, he continues to be extremely positive and inspiring, working tirelessly for Macmillan and raising awareness of Melanoma. Prior to his upcoming trek, in September 2018 Martyn walked the Severn Way trail, raising £46,000.

“We are very proud to be sponsors again this year for Martyn’s great cause, with this significant and brave challenge. He has raised so much awareness in the media and within the IT industry for skin cancer and Macmillan Cancer Support with his own brave fight, and he has been an inspiration to our team,” says David Newman, Director at DMC Canotec. “Whilst we won’t be able to walk with him this year on the mountain tops of the Scottish Highlands, like we did last year, many of us at DMC Canotec will be taking part in our own Jurassic Coast Challenge in September, going stride for stride on one of Martyn’s days.”
