Staples Solutions announced an agreement has been reached to sell its German retail and online business, www.staples.de.

Staples Solutions B.V. announced that it has reached an agreement to sell its retail and online business (www.staples.de) in Germany to New Office Centre GmbH, a member of the office supplies and equipment company, New Office Centre Beheer B.V. Group. This decision comes as Staples Solutions refocuses its strategy on its business-to-business contracts business.

“Last year’s sale of our retail and online business in the Netherlands to New Office Centre proved to be a positive transaction for both our customers and employees. I am delighted that our strong partner is now following suit to buy our German business. This is a natural next step, and I believe that this transaction provides the best opportunity for our talented German Retail and Online team and our consumer and SoHo (small office/home office) customers. This further simplifies our business and allows Staples Solutions to focus on growing our core business-to-business (B2B) contracts business, serving mid-size to large enterprise customers as well as public institutions,” said Dolph Westerbos, Chief Executive Officer of Staples Solutions.

“With its unique retail and online model that is complementary to our business, we see opportunities to unlock further potential from Staples Solutions’ retail and online business in Germany. We look forward to welcoming the team to our company. To stay close to the end customer, the headquarters for the German business will remain in Hamburg. In addition, Jochen Bohl will continue in his position as Managing Director,” said Frans Davelaar, Chief Executive Officer of New Office Centre Beheer B.V.

This follows on from Staples Solutions B.V. announcing in August that it had entered into an agreement with European distributor of packaging supplies and equipment for businesses RAJA, S.A., to purchase Staples Solutions’ business units in France, Italy, and Spain.
