The Australian environmental campaign has been celebrating 15 years of recycling efforts along with world surf champion Layne Beachley.

Beachley, a 7-time surfing champion, has been the campaign’s ambassador ever since Cartridges 4 Planet Ark first launched in 2003.

Now, 15 years later, the campaign has more than 38 million recycled cartridges under its belt and has developed strong links with OEMs such as Brother and Epson, as well as retail collection partners like Officeworks, Harvey Norman and Australia Post.

In addition, the campaign works closely with Close the Loop, which has resulted in a range of innovative schemes developed in partnership with other businesses and organisations, such as the creation of eWood garden beds, Enviroliner pens, and a road surface called TonerPlas, which “has recently incorporated plastic bags and stockpiled glass into its content.” Another interesting new product is 100 percent recycled artist ink, pioneered by a Melbourne-based business called Lousy Ink, which is made using the waste ink collected from inkjet printers and is “bottled and sold to budding creatives who care about good quality ink and sustainability.”

Cartridges 4 Planet Ark has marked its 15 years of success with a new TV advert featuring Layne Beachley and students from Cromer High School in New South Wales. In the ad, featuring kids born the same year as the campaign was founded, in 2003, Layne and the teens look back “on how much they’ve grown since they were babies and how much the campaign has grown” over the past 15 years.
