In January 2021, the UAE authorities seized 72,000 counterfeit printer cartridges from a warehouse complex in Ajman the Khaleej Times reports.
Speaking to local media Vishnu Taimni, vice-president and managing director of Middle East, Turkey and East Africa at HP, said: “The successful collaboration with local authorities to seize fake goods from the UAE market is reflective of the effectiveness of HP’s anti-counterfeiting and fraud programme.”
Working with various authorities, HP’s Anti-Counterfeit and Fraud Team (ACF) is active across many markets. In December 2020, The Recycler reported that the HP ACF team seized 54,000 counterfeit goods in Nigeria that included toner and inkjet cartridges.
In October 2020, following a tip off from the ACT, Saudi customs managed to stop an illicit cross-border trade in counterfeit cartridges for HP printers. HP’s ACF and the authorities seized 6,000 counterfeit “ready-for-sale” toner cartridges before they could enter Saudi Arabia. The Recycler news team has the story here.
In September 2020 HP gave an update on its anti-counterfeiting efforts in Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore, reporting that through its Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud (ACF) Programme the company seized $2.5 million (€2.14 million) counterfeit products and delisted over 12,800 online sites in the last seven months.
