AF&PA reports paper shipment increases again

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its June 2021 Printing-Writing Monthly report.

According to the report, total printing-writing paper shipments increased 10% in June compared to June 2020. U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers increased 16% in June compared to the same month last year. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels decreased 4% when compared to May 2021.

U.S. purchases of uncoated free sheet (UFS) papers in June increased 16% compared to last June while the inventory level decreased 3% compared to May 2021. UFS imports decreased 5% while exports increased 33% in May 2021.

Coated free sheet (CFS) paper shipments decreased 4% compared to June 2020 while the inventory level decreased 6% compared to May 2021. CFS imports decreased 6% while exports increased 58% in May 2021.

U.S. purchases of coated mechanical (CM) papers in June increased 41% compared to last June while the inventory level decreased 3% compared to May 2021. CM imports and exports both increased compared to May 2020, up 29% and 41% respectively.

Uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments decreased 9% compared to June 2020 while the inventory level decreased 5% compared to May 2021. UM imports and exports both increased compared to May 2020, up 26% and 52% respectively.
