The OEM’s British division has entered into a training collaboration with a subsidiary of Salford University.

Salford Professional Development, of Salford, England, has signed a deal with Brother’s UK subsidiary that will see the company become the OEM’s preferred training provider for its senior staff, reports Business Up North. Brother employees will now take part in a multitude of programmes and courses for management and leaders, which will be run by Salford Professional Development (SPD)’s executive education division.

The courses will educate attendees in areas including project management, public speaking, contract negotiation, coaching and mentoring, leadership development, responsibilities of directorship, business law, and finance. The agreement will see training provided for Brother staff from departments such as marketing, finance, sales, and operations, from junior manager level up to director level.

“We want people at their best as fast as possible so they get more out of their jobs and make a bigger contribution to the business,” explained Linda Willows, the OEM’s Learning and Development Officer and Head of Legal and Business Management. “This is partly achieved through training, and SPD will be my first port of call when we are looking at strategic and managerial programmes and courses for staff who currently occupy senior positions and those who will do so in the future. We also link the training to other aspects of our operations, such as appraisals, promotions and talent mapping, so we get the right person on the right seat on the right bus.”

Phil Whitman, the SPD’s director of executive education, which was established in 2016 as an offshoot from the University of Salford, said the company was “delighted” to be appointed to the partnership, and described Brother UK as “a tremendous brand and company,” adding that “we understand the business and its aspirations.”

“This appointment shows the success we are seeing for our executive education division and opportunities and benefits we can offer companies and organisations,” Whitman added.
