Canon concludes another legal conundrum

The District Court of Düsseldorf

The OEM has announced that it has concluded the pending patent dispute with Moreinks Limited, after a settlement agreement.

Moreinks, one of three companies that Canon sought a preliminary injunction against in August of last year, accepted the injunction as final and binding in the District Court of Düsseldorf, after alleged infringement of the German portion of Canon’s European Patent, EP 2 087 407 B1.

Although no proceedings have been brought by Canon against Moreinks in England and Wales, concerning the English portion of the above patent, Moreinks has voluntarily agreed to refrain from making, offering, putting into circulation and/or importing and/or owning laser toner cartridges comprising a drum unit with a certain coupling member for use in various models of HP and/or Canon laser beam printers in Great Britain.

Furthermore, Moreinks will pay the OEM damages in light of past patent infringements. All further details of the settlement remain confidential.

Last August, Canon was granted preliminary injunctions against Moreinks, PrintPerfect Ltd., and Coemedia GmbH, with the OEM reaching a similar settlement agreement with PrintPerfect in November.
