A new company blog gives a selection of Cartridge World tips to help photographers select the right printer for their needs.
As the blog explains, while “there is nothing like” having thousands of your treasured photos stored in digital format, possessing physical copies of the photographs is also highly desirable, particularly if they are recording special memories or events in your life.
But how do photographers go about selecting the right printer?
Photo or inkjet?
Cartridge World states that “Experts generally recommend inkjet printers for photographers”, as “they produce much higher quality images than laser printers”. They can also be used for a range of other print jobs. Alternatively, photographers can opt for a photo printer, dedicated solely to the production of “higher quality images.” Photo printers tend to be smaller in size, and therefore more portable, however they are “less versatile” and “generally slower than inkjets”.
Once you have decided which type of printer to go with, the blog advises making sure your chosen device is up to your specific standards when it comes to the following:
Colour quality
In order to ensure the colours of your printed photos are of a superior quality, “make sure your printer allows an ink set that offers pigment-based ink of vibrant, stable colours with smooth gradations.” The minimum ink droplet size should be approximately 3.5pl, in order to achieve a sharper image. Meanwhile, the printer itself should have a maximum resolution of 2280×1440 or 4800x2400dpi.
Compatibility
Compatibility with different kinds of media is an important consideration, whether you want to print directly onto a CD, DVD, USB 2.0 port “or other various media.” As Cartridge World advises, these requirements may not be as pressing for photographers wanting to produce 4×6-inch photos but when it comes to using an inkjet printer for your photos, you need to ensure the printer can support “different paper lengths.”
