German Customs officers opened a package containing a black powdery substance, testing revealed it was a toner-cocaine mix in the plastic containers.
On 12 July 2019, Customs Officers discovered 15 kilograms of a cocaine mixture while checking a post package from Colombia at Leipzig/ Halle airport. When the package was opened, the Customs Officers found six plastic containers and a black garbage bag.
Both the canisters and the bag contained a black, powdery substance. This aroused the suspicion of the officials, who then carried out several rapid drug tests. The tests were positive for cocaine. The Customs Officers confiscated the package and its contents.
More detailed investigations showed that the mixture was cocaine and printer toner. The amount of pure cocaine is about two kilograms. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the value of the cocaine is approximately €100,000 / $120,000.
“The perpetrators have been very conspiratorial in this case and have tried to mislead customs by mixing it with the toner, which shows that the smugglers are constantly changing and refining their methods. Despite these tricks my colleagues, due to their experience, managed to pull the cocaine out of circulation”, said Maximilian Hempel, spokesperson for the main Customs Office in Dresden.
