Costco embraces RIS InkCenter

Costco’s branch in Gypsum, Colorado has become the latest to install an RIS InkCenter in store.

Retail Inkjet Solutions’ offers a refill service on OEM inkjet cartridges at a variety of stores, with the Gypsum branch the latest to include the service.

Customers can bring their empty cartridges to Costco’s Photo Centre and have them cleaned, tested, and refilled while they wait. The service claims to take under an hour and offers “top-quality inks” as well as savings of “up to 60 percent or more.” It also offers the benefit of reducing landfill, at a time when plastic waste is becoming an ever-more pertinent problem.

The service only applies to original cartridges, however, and not remanufactured or aftermarket models.

It is the latest milestone for RIS, following last year’s announcements that both German electronics chain Saturn, and Romania’s Metro Cash & Carry outlets, would offer the InkCenter service. The company also recently signed a deal with French distributor MSO Technologie, to distribute the equipment across various stores in France.
