DKWU lobbies to have chips included in the VA

DKWU, the Network of the German Remanufactures, has requested that OEM circuitry/chips for cartridges and containers are included as standard spare parts in the VA.

DKWU, the Network of the German Remanufactures said that it requests that the OEM circuitry/chips for cartridges and containers are being included as standard spare parts in the Voluntary Agreement (Standard spare part lists are included in paragraphs 7.4.2 and 7.4.7 in VA Draft v. 5: https://www.eurovaprint.eu/pages/voluntary-agreement/) for all printers regardless of their nominal price point.

The DKWU wrote: “Chips/sensors are readily available as spare parts that communicate with the Cars Software and firmware and work without any problems in the automotive sector. A prominent example are tires and rims in combination with the tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) that have been made mandatory in the EU since 01.11.2014 (see EC / 661/2009).

“OEM and approved third-party replacement sensors are available for all vehicles with a direct measuring TPMS sensor. Similar to how chips on the cartridges communicate with the printer’s firmware, these TPMS sensors communicate with the vehicle’s telematics, for which they are approved.

“The OEMs could easily make available fully functional refurbished or new chips in exchange for used OEM chips. Using chip technology in the office imaging equipment industry to fence off third party supplies must be a thing of the past.”
