Don’t SCIP the January deadline

by | Oct 8, 2020 | 0 comments

During the last week of October, the SCIP database will open for submitting notifications to comply with the EU legal obligations ahead of the mandatory requirement that comes into effect on 5th January 2021, as outlined in the Waste Framework Directive.

SCIP is the database for information on Substances of Concern in articles or in complex objects (Products) established under the Waste Framework Directive (WFD).

Companies supplying articles containing substances of very high concern (SVHCs) on the Candidate List in a concentration above 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) on the EU market have to submit information on these articles to ECHA, as from 5 January 2021. The SCIP database ensures that the information on articles containing Candidate List substances is available throughout the whole lifecycle of products and materials, including at the waste stage. The information in the database is then made available to waste operators and consumers.

SVHC are defined in Article 57 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (“the REACH Regulation”) and include substances which are: Carcinogenic, Mutagenic or toxic to Reproduction (CMR), meeting the criteria for classification in category 1 or 2 in accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC.
