The next adventure of Emperor Penguin, Greg, and Grace is on the horizon, with animator Lily Dell developing the next episode titled “Gone Fishing” in mid-2023.
New Zealand animator, Lily Dell, has discussed her latest project with the G&G team. Dell, who has spent most of her life creating on-screen animations for Disney sequels, says it has been a thrill to create the distinctive characteristics of the Emperor, Grace, and Greg penguins for G&G.
Dell emphasises the importance of the design processes and the hours it takes to create a few seconds of animation, including the creation of facial expressions, moods, blinking eyes, and vibrating eyebrows. She also stresses the importance of voice acting in conveying emotions and personalities of the characters.
Regarding the importance of each character’s voice, Dell says, “each character needs a distinctive voice of their own so they can be clearly recognised.” Emperor penguin has a calm, professional, cultured voice, while Greg has a youthful, cheeky voice and Grace owns a lively, self-assured, and opinionated voice.
The three penguin characters represent G&G’s brand by showcasing a fantasy world where they go on holidays, live in igloo homes, and have printers to print their holiday snaps. Dell creates an entertaining story on film using the quirky penguins to show how G&G makes life easier, with more fun and joy.
Dell’s experience as a Disney animator has helped her bring some of that magic into the G&G stories. Following the success of the first short film, “Holiday Photos,” Dell is developing a new story, “Gone Fishing,” which will be released in mid-2023.
