HP Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud (ACF) Programme succeeded in seizing over $7 million (€6.22 million) worth of counterfeit products in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Channel Asia reported that in a 15-month operation across Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, HP has seized $7.18 million (€6.38 million) worth of counterfeit products from “fraudulent suppliers”.

According to Channel Asia the operation was led by the HP Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud team and local law enforcement agencies performed “more than 17 raids and five arrests in impacted markets.”

A statement from HP said: “Seizures from these raids consisted of items like finished and unfinished cartridges, packaging materials and various sets of labels. Counterfeit printing supplies pose a serious threat to consumers and businesses alike. The use of counterfeit supplies can often result in printer damage, malfunctions, and is not covered by printer hardware warranties. More importantly, it can result in lost revenue and unnecessary downtime for business.”

At the end of June The Recycler reported that in a series of raids, HP’s Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud team and German Customs have been successful in seizing thousands of counterfeit computer components and printer cartridges.

A study by Harris Interactive commissioned by HP showed that the global economy is losing around $3 billion (€2.6 billion) every year to counterfeit products sold.

HP’s ACF Programme seeks to educate its customers and partners in the value of vigilance against counterfeit supplies, while cooperating globally with law enforcement agencies to bring an end to the illegal operations producing counterfeit components.

In recent months, as well as its continued efforts across the African continent, such as in Uganda and Nigeria, HP has also been successful in the fight against fakes right across the globe, including recent breakthroughs in the United Arab Emirates.
