HP reduces toner yield

by | Jun 24, 2019 | 0 comments

HP has issued a statement advising resellers that they are reducing the yield on selected “A” range laser toner cartridges.

According to the statement HP is striving to deliver competitive pricing for their managed print services and high usage customers. However, they are introducing changes to the yield on selected “A” cartridges to deliver “reasonable yields”. HP “X” cartridges will remain the same.

The cartridges in question are in the table below and the impacted yields are in red.

CF287A 87A 9000 8550 5%

CF410A 305A 2200 / 2600 2090 / 2600 5%
CF380A   2400 / 2700 2280 / 2700 5%

No mention of pricing was contained in the statement, but dealers expect the prices of “A” cartridges to remain the same. In effect increasing the cost for lower volume users.

Editors Opinion: The thinking around the world is to reduce the amount of plastics that are produced. Reducing toner content by 5 percent effectively means that HP will need to increase production of “A” cartridges by 5 percent. Not exactly sustainability in action.
