HP to invest in US chip production?

The bipartisan CHIPS Act was signed into law earlier this year, hoping that it will boost domestic semiconductor research and production within the US.

Oregon Tech reports that HP is considering in investing in manufacturing jobs in Oregon, if the company successfully gets a portion of the $52 billion (€52 billion) set aside for the semiconductor industry in the US.

Tuan Tran, President of Imaging and Printing at HP told the Oregon Tech that the company is looking “to bring its development, prototyping and manufacturing back under one roof” and with the funding it would be able to continue to invest locally.

It is not yet clear how many jobs would be created or how bigger investment Hp will make in Corvallis but it will be a “U-turn” on its cuts the company has been making over the last few years.
