ICCE fighting counterfeiting in Russia

ICCE, the Imaging Consumables Coalition of Europe, Middle East and Africa, is launching a subtitled video at a St Petersburg anti-counterfeiting event, to help Russian law enforcement officers in their fight against counterfeiting gangs.

The video, with Russian subtitles will be shown for the first time at a training event in St Petersburg, Russia, on Friday 5 July 2019 organised by REACT in cooperation with St Petersburg Customs and St Petersburg University of Economics.

A number of ICCE members will be at the event to support the training and video launch, and to meet representatives from Russian customs and law enforcement agencies.

An ICCE representative explained that “the purpose of the video is to raise awareness amongst the Russian law enforcement community about the dangers of counterfeit imaging supplies and how ICCE helps to fight counterfeiting in EMEA to protect consumers.”

It is estimated that the global impact of counterfeiting on the printing supplies industry is $3 billion (€2.66 billion) a year.

Counterfeit imaging products are not only likely to be sub-standard but they can also damage printers and potentially expose consumers to dangerous chemicals, ICCE explained.

ICCE added: “Counterfeits are often produced in appalling working environments and in buying these consumers may inadvertently be funding criminal groups linked to drug dealing, human trafficking and terrorism.”

The training programme involves an introduction to the brands in the imaging consumables sector and their product portfolios. Practical demonstrations will explain how to tell counterfeits from genuine products so that participants have the confidence to recognise counterfeit imaging consumables during routine checks of shipments, warehouses, street sellers and retail outlets.
