In his latest blog post, Dean Michael, Owner of Australia-based Ink Hub, talks about how users can downgrade their HP firmware, so they are able to carry on using third party supplies.

After users reported that following on from their HP firmware update their third party cartridges no longer were recognised, Michael tested and explored firmware downgrades for HP OfficeJet Pro 7740, 8210, 8216, 8710, 8720, 8730, 8740, 8745, HP OfficeJet Pro 452, 477, 552, 577 and HP PageWide Managed P55250DW, P57750DW devices.

Michael writes: “This only works for generic cartridges which use the Amex brand microchips. This covers all of the Ink hub range and many other generic brands. We have tested the downgrade on the HP955XL printers and it works a treat.”

He additionally warns that some users experienced firmware upgrades although on the actual machine the automatic firmware was set to ‘off’, “the App was somehow allowing the upgrades to be downloaded onto their printers.”

The links to the firmware downgrade instructions can be found here.
