The OEM has announced it will begin the laying off of its workers in July of this year.
The Hartford Business Journal reports that the announcement comes as the company prepares to close two of its Windsor, Connecticut-based facilities, on Day Hill Road and Marshall Phelps Road, in September 2019.
It follows the announcement of the planned closures last November, as part of the OEM’s strategy to consolidate its operations at its Ramsey headquarters in New Jersey over the next 18 months.
The Labour Department were notified that the layoffs will commence on July the 23rd, and continue from there in phases. All 431 employees from the two facilities will be laid off, although they will be offered transfers to the OEM’s Ramsey HQ, along with other company locations in Milford and Shelton (both in Connecticut.)
Following tax incentives from the state, Konica Minolta is planning on investing nearly $20 million (€16.5 million) into its New Jersey expansion, with the addition of 29,400 square feet of office space, expanded parking facilities and the creation of around 400 new jobs. Currently, the Ramsey facility employs 474 people, across approximately 191,000 square feet.
The OEM has had a presence in Windsor since 1986, when the Japanese company formed its US subsidiary, although its corporate offices moved to New Jersey in 2003.
