Lexmark is GDPR-prepared

A recent blog released by the OEM regarding the coming of GDPR on 25 May 2018 asserts Lexmark’s readiness.

As the OEM explains, the roll-out of GDPR “is just the beginning of an ongoing requirement to provide data and privacy protection”, and has “far-reaching implications for any organisation that controls or processes data”.

Because GDPR can result in the handing out of warnings and substantial fines for non-compliance, Lexmark advises a thorough readiness plan which includes appraising “the role your print infrastructure plays in the handling of documents and information.”

The OEM states: “Our data indicate that many organisations operate with a menagerie of output devices, making both the assessment and hardening of the print infrastructure a complicated task.

Further, recent IDC research shows that more than 30 percent of organisations have no security policies in place for managing access to and controlling usage rights for printers and MFPs located on the network. At the same time, over half of the respondents surveyed indicate a high level of concern regarding the unauthorised use of copiers or MFPs.”

Describing its own devices as being “GDPR-ready”, Lexmark explains that they are able to provide “multiple, built-in security features, which support customers in meeting several aspects of GDPR requirements.”

The OEM goes on to say that its Lexmark MPS systems and operations, and Lexmark Print Management cloud offering, “are ISO 27001 certified” and declares that the company has channelled significant investment into preparing for GDPR.
