IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker has revealed that worldwide HCP shipments have grown 0.9 percent with over 23.5 million units shipped in Q2 2018.

Shipments of both inkjet and laser devices “both expanded in the quarter”, with each type demonstrating 0.8 percent year over year.

Highlights from the quarter included:

  • HP retaining its leadership position as “top HCP company”, registering 3.5 percent year on year growth. Canon, in second place, experienced a 4.4 percent decline, but third and fourth-place OEMs, Epson and Brother respectively, “also saw positive year-over-year growth”.
  • Colour laser 21-30ppm devices recorded year-over-year growth of 41.4 percent in unit shipments, an expansion aided by “strong performances from the top companies, especially HP Inc., Brother, Canon and Xerox.”
  • Epson recorded the most substantial year-over-year shipment growth, with an increase of 5.1 percent, representing over 4.1 million units shipped. This sizeable expansion “was largely due to its strong growth within the Asia/Pacific and Japan regions where business inkjets and ink tank models continue to thrive.”
  • HP Inc reporting “a particularly strong performance in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) and the U.S. HP’s growth was driven by attractive inkjet pricing deals as well as strong demand from small business customers for the Colour LaserJet Pro MFP M281, a colour laser device.”
