The Mopria Scan 1.2 delivers enhanced, multi-brand usability and on-the-go scanning, meeting a need for mobile scan solutions revealed in a recent survey.
The Mopria Alliance, a global non-profit membership organisation providing universal standards and solutions for print and scan, announced the rollout of the Mopria Scan 1.2 app, available for download from Google Play or the Mopria website.
Mopria Scan gives Android users the ability to save files locally on a mobile device, or send them directly to email, file browsers, document viewers, or cloud services like Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive and more. The updated Mopria Scan 1.2 delivers the same functionality with Wi-Fi Direct support, as well as many reliability improvements.
The Mopria Scan app is a convenient way to scan from anywhere, with a streamlined scanning process that allows users to scan directly from their scanner or multi-function printer (MFP) to an Android device.
“With this improved method for the office – as well as consumers and business travellers – to scan to their mobile device, users get all the functionality of a wired scanner without being bound to a desktop or laptop by using Mopria Scan,” said Phil Mazzilli, Chairman of the Marketing Working Group at the Mopria Alliance. “Mopria Scan gives users more flexibility and facilitates new collaborative and mobile use cases.”
The Mopria survey revealed almost 65 percent of respondents scan for their own recordkeeping, with 55 percent scanning in order to reference information in the file later – meaning the ability to scan to a mobile device or cloud service gives users an easy way to carry their files with them for quick reference.
Mopria Alliance also recently announced that Android 10 now includes Mopria Alliance’s code contribution, giving users continued ability to print directly from Android devices.
In including the wireless printing capability, Android 10 follows the lead of the two previous versions of the operating system, both of which also included the Android Default Print Service’s core printing technology from the Mopria Print Service – showing that even in a mobile, digital world, people still want the ability to print.

The Default Print Service first debuted in 2017 with the launch of Android 8 – the result of an ongoing collaboration between the Mopria Alliance and the Google Android team via the Android Open Source Project.
