Mopria Print celebrates a massive milestone

The Mopria Alliance is celebrating more than 1 billion installations of Mopria print technology after founders established the Alliance five years ago.

Widespread adoption of Mopria technology includes the Mopria Print Service app for Android devices and it is also pre-installed on select Amazon Fire, Huawei and ZTE devices. Additionally, Mopria technology is integrated in the Samsung Print Service for Samsung Galaxy phones, as well as the Android Default Print Service offered in Android 8 and Android 9.

“The strong continued growth of Mopria shows that printing is still in demand in the modern mobile age,” said Greg Kuziej, Chairman of the Board at the Mopria Alliance. “Reaching 1 billion installations of Mopria print technology is an impressive milestone for the Mopria Alliance to hit by its fifth anniversary and all of our members continue to be committed to developing solutions that deliver the ability to easily and intuitively print or scan wherever you might be.”

Mopria print technology allows convenient and intuitive printing with automatic printer discovery to more than 3,000 models and 120 million deployed Mopria certified printers from any Android device. Users can easily print photos, web pages and documents when connected to Mopria certified printers through a wireless network or using Wi-Fi Direct.

“Since its inception, the Mopria Alliance has worked tirelessly to address one of the pain points of modern digital printing – printing from Android smartphones and tablets. The Mopria mobile-print solution not only benefits end-users, who can now painlessly print on-the-go, but print vendors, who might have otherwise lost those print clicks. In our own personal experience using low-cost Android-based tablets, we’ve found the Mopria print app works like a charm. Congrats to the Alliance on its 1 billion installations and five-year anniversary,” said Kathleen Wirth, Vice President, Wirth Consulting.

Additional interest in Mopria has been spurred by the recent beta release of Mopria Scan. Mopria Scan allows users to scan directly to mobile devices, organise and rename digital scan files and share scanned data to other people and applications.

The Mopria Alliance was founded by Canon, HP, Samsung and Xerox, and the nonprofit membership organisation has since grown to 23 members, representing the worldwide printer business. In addition to the founding companies, the Mopria Alliance today includes Adobe, Brother, Dell, Epson, Fuji Xerox, Huawei, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Lexmark, Microsoft, NEC, OKI Data, Pantum, Primax, Qualcomm, Ricoh, Sharp, Toshiba and YSoft.
