Elon Musk coined the term gigafactory in 2013 in an investors call. Yet quietly Ninestar has been building their own gigafactory and phase 1 is almost complete and due to start production soon.
Two years after starting construction of their printer gigafactory in April 2019, Ninestar confirms that the first phase of construction of Ninestar’s hi-tech printer manufacturing base is approaching its end.
Phase I of the gigafactory is planned to be officially put into operation in the first half of 2021 and will target an annual output of two million printer units. This will rise to four million printer units annually once the gigafactory is in full production.
Elon Musk coined the term gigafactory in 2013 in an investors call. When complete, Tesla’s Nevada Gigafactory is expected to cover over 4.9 million square feet, some 455,000 square metres. Or just about half of Ninestar’s industrial park that will cover an area of 900,000 square meters with a total investment of ¥9 billion ($1.38 billion/ €1.16 billion). The construction of the industrial park is divided into two phases, occupying 600,000 square meters and 300,000 square meters respectively.

The company said: “Ninestar will constantly introduce advanced concepts such as intelligent manufacturing and smart logistics, which will help to build a high-tech industrial park.”
