Printing-writing paper shipments continue to decline

The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released the October 2023 Printing-Writing monthly report.

According to the report, total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 15% in October compared to October 2022. U.S. purchases of total printing-writing papers decreased 30% in September compared to the same month last year. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels decreased 2% when compared to September 2023.

Net imports in all three major printing-writing grades in September decreased 49% compared to the same month last year and 37% year-to-date.

Individually, most import and export trade activity in the three major grades in September has decreased when compared to the same month last year. The only exception are Mechanical papers exports, which saw a 10% increase.
