The OEM’s new returnable eco-packaging has been honoured with the WorldStar Award 2018 from the World Packaging Organisation in a ceremony in Queensland, Australia.

The award promotes products that have already received global acclaim to the wider packaging industry, and according to Ricoh, the winning products “epitomise the latest in technology and innovation.”

In 2018, 318 nominations were received for the award, from 38 different countries, with 200 winners being named by the WPO. Successful entrants were rewarded based on criteria including “protection and conservation, usability, design, economy, and environmental-friendliness.”

Ricoh’s eco-packaging, which is designed to improve both recycling efficiency and durability compared to the “conventional” returnable packaging, boasts an improved shape to ease stacking and facilitate easier, more efficient, and more cost-effective collections.

The reduction in weight, by 45 percent, compared to conventional eco-packing, is also predicted to “reduce the burden on logistics workers and improve operational efficiencies.” It also reduces the amount of material used, and ergo the CO2 emissions too.
