The WEEE Forum reports that a huge number of organisations have marked the second International E-Waste Day, making it a great success.

As the week of the second International E-Waste Day drew to a close, the WEEE Forum team has been reflecting on a hugely successful and impactful campaign. This year the WEEE Forum had 112 organisations registered to take part (more than double than last year’s number) from 48 countries across six continents.

WEEE Forum was pleased to this time partner with an EU body, the International Telecommunications Union, and once again had the support from EU Commissioner, Karmenu Vella, who recorded a special message for the day.

In addition, there was online and written press, TV and radio coverage, the release of e-waste videos and animations, conferences and workshops focused on the issues around e-waste, WEEE collections in schools and cities, cultural events plus thousands of messages on social media highlighting the statistics, the activities and the action needed.

Magdalena Charytanowicz, Communication Manager for the WEEE Forum, said: “Some of the reports coming in from participants are impressive, but even without looking at these we could feel that this year there was more happening, more ambitious activities taking place, more coverage and definitely more impact.”

A detailed review of the second International E-Waste Day will be provided as the feedback is analysed and will be made publicised soon.
