Standing desks better for your health?

With a new study revealing that standing desks could improve life expectancy, long-running UK company i-desk has announced the availability of its own range.

i-desk is a business which “provides businesses and educational institutions with desk and storage solutions”, including bespoke desks tailored specifically to client requirements. Among the desks the company has to offer are a range of standing desks, and i-desk recently released an infographic detailing the reasons why these desks are a healthier alternative to the more customary sitting versions.

According to the infographic, sitting desks can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease by 40 percent over time, as well as decreasing the enzymes that help break down fat by a whopping 90 percent. Last but not least, when you sit without interruption for longer than 6 hours, according to the infographic, “you counteract the effect of 60 minutes of physical exercise.”

Conversely, by standing up when you work, and actively moving around, you can reduce the risk of cancer by up to 25 percent, burn up to 50 percent more calories an hour than when you sit, and increase your muscle activity by 2.5 times compared to sitting down.

Taking these thought-provoking health facts into consideration, it looks like standing desks could become the way of the future for the next generation of office workers.
