The United Kingdom Cartridge Remanufacturers Association has revealed the date and location of this year’s meeting, as well as details of its key speaker.

The 2018 UKCRA meeting will take place at the Novotel hotel in Coventry, England, on the 18th of October, and is open to all who wish to attend.

The event’s key speaker will be Chris Davies, a former Member of the European Parliament for North West England from 1999 to 2014. During his decade and a half in office, Davies served as the Liberal Democrat spokesman on the European Parliament’s Environment, Public Health, and Food Safety Committee, winning Parliamentarian of the Year in 2014.

Whilst in office, Davies was also active in the environment, climate, and energy policy sectors, and his efforts in these fields during the development of 2000’s WEEE Directive led to the inclusion of the ‘design for reuse’ stipulation for imaging equipment.

That work in turn prompted a detailed study, “on the implementation of product design requirements set out in Article 4 of the WEEE Directive,” in particular focussing on the reusability of printer cartridges. The wider measures outlined in this study aimed to “improve the robustness of both the new and the reused cartridge markets.”

Davies boasts degrees from both Cambridge University and the University of Kent, and is sure to prove an insightful and illuminating speaker.
