KMP AG, has announced that Mr Heinz Gerhard Sieg, passed away on 15th of January 2022, just a few days short of his 81st Birthday. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues and with much respect, we say goodbye to an extraordinary person.

About Heinz Sieg

Heinz Sieg founded KMP in 1988 in Eggenfelden, Bavaria, initially as a GmbH (limited company). The company evolved quickly developing a full-range supplier of compatible printer consumables and establishing KMP as a market leader. In 1999 the company was changed into an »Aktiengesellschaft« (public limited company).

Under the direction of the experienced duo – Heinz G. Sieg and his son Jan-Michael Sieg – the company turned into one of the European market leaders with over 500 employees. The product portfolio has changed substantially in the past years. The former ribbon producer has grown into a company that embraced the new laser and inkjet printing technologies at the right time. Most of the KMP revenue nowadays is earned with ink and toner cartridges.

Heinz Sieg was born in Bromberg on the 20 January 1942. After school, he completed a commercial apprenticeship as well as a degree in business administration.

From 1971 he worked in various positions for the German Trade Union Confederation before becoming head of the Graf Bismarck vocational training centre in Gelsenkirchen at the age of only 33.

Heinz Sieg then took over the management of Regentrop & Bernhard Produktionsgesellschaft in Wuppertal in 1982. In April 1988, KMP GmbH was founded, which is now represented as KMP AG with eight companies throughout Europe and China.

He found personal happiness with his wife Ingrid, whom he married in 1964 and with whom he later had sons Jan-Michael and Christian.

David Connett, The Recycler’s former Editor and Publisher said: “Heinz has been a cornerstone of the industry for as long as I can remember. Very astute and forward thinking, Heinz had a sense of where the industry and market was moving, well before anyone else.

“One of his many strengths was his ability to engage, he always had time for people and always some friendly advice, that I later came to rely on when we were having conversations about creating ETIRA, the European toner and inkjet remanufacturing association. Heinz and KMP were founding members and have been supportive of the industry from day 1.”

Over the years, KMP also has won several awards. Including:

1995: Awarded the Bayerischer Umweltpreis (Bavarian Environmental Award) for the development and manufacture of resource-friendly products

1998: Awarded the MOE Förderpreis, an award for exceptional entrepreneurial achievements in Central and Eastern Europe

2001: Heinz G. Sieg, chairman of the board of directors, is awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande (Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany)

2004: Heinz G. Sieg, chairman of the board of directors, is awarded the Staatsmedaille für besondere Verdienste (State Medal for Exceptional Achievements) for the Bavarian economy.
