WEEE Forum to discuss WEEE uniform conditions

The WEEE Forum has announced that it will discuss the recently announced uniform conditions for WEEE treatment at IERC 2020.

The WEEE Forum announced that its Director General, Pascal Leroy, will give a presentation at the 19th International Electronics Recycling Congress, which takes place between 21 – 24 January 2020 in Salzburg.

In a session dedicated to Standards taking place on the 22 January between 15.30 and 17.00, Mr Leroy, alongside Lida Stengs, the Executive Secretary of EERA, will focus on EU-wide uniform conditions for WEEE quality treatment.

Last month the announcement was made that the European Commission is considering the preparation of Implementing Acts laying down minimum quality standards for the treatment of Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE). The WEEE Forum is strongly of the view that it is absolutely crucial to do so in strict accordance with the European standards for WEEE.

The WEEE Forum said that the consultants that undertake the preparatory study, the Member States and the European Commission should acknowledge the importance of strictly implementing all requirements from EN 50625 and EN 50614, the suite of CENELEC standards covering the collection, transport, re-use and treatment of WEEE and avoid their watering down since they represent one integral set of standards to be applied by all actors in a harmonised way throughout Europe for improved quality waste management.
