what a difference an “E” makes

Earlier this week we picked up on a story doing the rounds in several African media outlets about the closure of Hewlett Packard East Africa Limited. We picked up on the job losses of the closure and the various tax issues Hewlett Packard East Africa Limited had encountered in previous years. So all good reporting so far. Except that we abbreviated Hewlett Packard East Africa Limited to HP and we picked up on the anti-counterfeiting activities in Kenya undertaken by HP.

We, like the other media outlets, got that wrong.  Hewlett Packard East Africa Limited is part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and the correct abbreviation is HPE. And of course, since 2015 HP Inc and Hewlett Packard Enterprise are two separate and unaffiliated companies.

Apologies to HP Inc and HPE for the confusion and a thank you to Yolanda at Edelman South Africa for bringing it to our attention.
