A new blog from Cartridge World lists a quartet of reasons why physical printing will remain immortal in our societies.
Despite “an increasing number of processes going digital”, including everything from reading the morning paper to paying for groceries, the blog begins by contending that “print still plays a significant role in our lives.”
Cartridge World gives four arenas of our lives which have yet to succumb to the digital revolution, naming them as “just some of the reasons we still rely on our home printers.”
The first of these four is boarding passes, with the blog arguing that nowadays, “most airlines prefer that you check in online before you arrive at the airport, and print your boarding pass at home” – arguing that this can save you both time, and potentially, money. Whilst admitting that airlines are increasingly now offering digital boarding passes for smartphone apps, the blog asserts that “nothing is guaranteed on a cell phone,” citing malfunctions, battery death, or loss of internet access as reasons why “paper is often the safest route when travelling.”
Secondly, and similarly, event tickets are another commodity that are increasingly printed at home having been ordered online, rather than by queues of people at a box office window. Cartridge World calls home printing “the easiest and cheapest way to get your tickets,” and argues that whilst digital options are again available, they are subject to the same risks as digital boarding passes – except with a possible less sympathetic policy for lost or irretrievable tickets, compared to airports.
Photos are the third reason named by Cartridge World for print’s seemingly unending popularity: According to the blog, the advent of smartphones means people take a combined 1.2 trillion photos per annum – “just imagine the astronomical cost of printing all of those photos at a photo centre.” Home printing is the quickest, cheapest, and most convenient method of printing hard copies, if you want to use them as a gift or just as decoration. As Cartridge World argues, “using a home printer for photos also gives you the freedom to create custom collages and art projects without additional fees,” adding that “with high-quality photo paper, your prints will be ready in no time, and you don’t even have to leave the house.”
The fourth and final reason cited by Cartridge World’s blog is resumes, or CVs. Although many employers will also request a digital copy, there is nothing quite as encouraging to an employer as bringing some physical copies to an interview, which “ensures that your future employers gets the full picture of your job experience, while giving them the added convenience of having a ready-to-go paper copy at the interview.”
“Your home printer plays a big role in everything from helping you get to a vacation destination to landing your dream job,” the blog concludes. “Printing has changed over the years, but it’s cemented in our professional and personal lives. Make sure your home printer is up to date and ready to go the next time you need it.”
